Greetings from Boston, 5/10/08
In case you are wondering why you have received so little news this winter and spring from Art Up, it is because I have been in the midst of changing the focus of Art Up for the next three years. I have received the GREAT NEWS that an anonymous foundation has granted RAW Art Works a three-year grant for a project that I will be leading. Many of you are aware of my 14-year involvement with the amazing organization RAW, that began as the doors opened in 1994 (www.rawart.org). Although I am no longer their Program Director, I have continued as their Program Consultant focusing on creating comprehensive evaluations for their program staff, their 40 programs, and for the 500 youth that attend their weekly groups each year. With this grant, we will be able to bring over ten years of hard work from the best in the field to the next level. After intense research, we will pilot a new system with four other Boston Youth Arts organizations. We will be able to advance the body of knowledge of Youth Arts Evaluation by garnering the results and disseminating the findings in Massachusetts, and even nationally. I will continue to remain a very active Board Member of Art on Alberta and will still be able to offer camps and classes on a limited basis, but my focus at Art Up will now be on Youth Arts Evaluation.
