Group runs: Jan. 29th - June 15th Mondays or Tuesdays 4pm-6pm

Art Up presents: "Project: Look Up"
Collaborating with other Alberta Street galleries, organizations, and neighbors we will research past, present, and possible future contributions of women of color: in our history, in the Alberta Street neighborhood, and in individual lives.

After applying and being interviewed, ten female teens will be chosen from North and Northeast Portland to meet once a week after school for five months. Using the themes of Identity and Community we will build skills and understanding through drawing, painting, printmaking, and abstract art. You will have the rare opportunity to hear from heroines in our community and to work with the famous guest artists, Lillian Pitt, Adriene Cruz, and Roslyn Hill.

By May 2007 teens will create ten giant mixed-media black-and-white portrait paintings (on doors 32" x 80") that honor ten women of color who have blazed new trails and persevered with passion. Artwork will be featured on Alberta Street in the 2007 "All Eyes on Alberta" Art Hop (May 19th and 20th) as well as on the Last Thursday in May.
